At the beginning of 2017, the City of Ostrava announced an international architectural competition for the best design for the reconstruction of the historical building of a former abattoir to house the PLATO Ostrava gallery. Ten studios were invited to participate, eight of which submitted their designs.

The competition jury consisted of dependent members: Tomáš Macura, Mayor of Ostrava; Lukáš Semerák, member of the Ostrava City Council; Marek Pokorný, director of PLATO Ostrava gallery (chairman), and independent members: Prague architect Pavla Melková, Brno architect Zdeněk Fránek, architect Pavol Paňák from  Bratislava and architect Ivan Reiman from Berlin.


The architects who took part in the competition will present their designs at the exhibition opening on 30 May 2017 at 6 p.m. and will discuss them with the audience.


The exhibition is accompanied by Architecture for the City, a display of designs by students of the Department of Architecture of the Building Faculty, VŠB ‒ TU Ostrava.
